“Rings of Power” Returns For Season 3 This Year
Looks like the third season of Amazon Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is going early.
THR is reporting that a source close to production has told the trade the new run will release later this year rather than in 2027 as previously believed.
That will shrink the gap between seasons down to two years, the second season having aired back in October 2024.
Jumping forward several years from the events of season two, season three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.
This is not to be confused with the fight seen in the prologue of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy known as the War of the Last Alliance. The new season was shot at Shepperton Studios in the UK last year.
The show has pulled in around 170 million viewers worldwide and has been a major driver of Prime membership signups.
Returning cast members for Rings of Power include Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel and Robert Aramayo as Elrond. Joining them in the third run will be Jamie Campbell Bower, Ray Eddie Marsan, Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla and Adam Young.
