WB Teases “Dune 3,” “Digger” & More At CinemaCon
Warner Bros. Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation took place in Las Vegas tonight and offered brief updates on a number of projects. Sadly no trailer releases like Sony’s panel yesterday.
First up, they confirm the “Ocean’s 11” prequel film, starring Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie, is targeting a 2027 release. That film follows the parents of Danny Ocean at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
Next, they confirm that “Evil Dead Wrath” has been set for a 2027 release in cinemas and will follow “Evil Dead Burn” opening later this year. Footage from ‘Burn’ was shown, including a deadite drinking hot wax and an impaling by dishwasher knives.
“Leave the World Behind” director Sam Esmail’s Julia Roberts & Elizabeth Olsen-led paranoia thriller “Panic Carefully” is reportedly set to be the first IMAX digital release presented entirely in the 1:43:1 aspect ratio during the entire film.
Also on the way are the Keanu Reeves-led shark survival thriller “Shiver” from director Tim Miller, the Cynthia Erivo-led animated family-fantasy film “Bad Fairies,” and the Melissa McCarthy-led animated Christmas film “Margie Claus”.
Alejandro Iñárritu’s “Digger,” shot in VistaVision, screened a teaser trailer that shows Tom Cruise as Digger Rockwell, an industrialist CEO whose oil drilling on an ice shelf causes a worldwide environmental catastrophe he must fix.
Cruise reportedly has grey receding hair, a thick accent and a prosthetic nose in the “Digger” clip. Also confirmed cast are John Goodman as the U.S. President and Riz Ahmed as his aide, along with Sandra Huller and Jesse Plemons. The clip was reportedly packed with explosions, jet sequences, brawls and other action and comedy elements.
Another big reveal was “Clayface” which got a teaser trailer in which Matt Hagan (Tom Rhys Harries) lies covered in a face bandage as it flashes back to his life as an actor in Gotham City. The shot at the end has him lying in a bath and wiping off his face into a swirl of clay.
Other scenes screened for the room include a “Mortal Kombat II” clip with Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) fighting Baraka, “Supergirl” had a clip with Milly Alcocjk’s Kara taking on a bunch of space pirates who’ve hijacked the airbus she and Ruthye (Eve Ridley) are on, “The End of Oak Street” had an extended version of the teaser, while “The Cat in the Hat” and “Practical Magic 2” also had brief clips.
The panel ended with the biggest event of the night – the opening seven minutes of “Dune: Part Three” screened for the crowd – showing off the scene from the hand-to-hand combat sequence with Emperor Paul’s army, led by Stilgar (Javier Bardem), on a rainy planet seen in the trailer.
