Bruckheimer Sets Animated Musical “Epic” Odyssey
“Epic,” an animated musical re-telling of Homer’s “The Odyssey,” is being adapted into a film by “F1” and “Top Gun: Maverick” producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman.
Jorge Rivera-Herrans is the creator, composer, songwriter, producer, and performer behind the viral TikTok series and is teaming with Bruckheimer and Atlantic Music Group president Kevin Weaver to produce it.
The project is said to be in its earliest stages and is being taken out to studios and streamers shortly for presentations by Bruckheimer’s reps at CAA. It will mark Bruckheimer’s first go at animation.
“Epic” started out as an ambitious senior thesis at the University of Notre Dame. Then, during the pandemic, he began posting his creative process on TikTok in 2021 and began releasing the sagas as musicals starting in 2022.
The series has racked up four billion global streams and over seven billion short-form views – turning what was viral social content into a global phenomenon.
The news comes ahead of filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s live-action take on “The Odyssey,” which is set to open in cinemas on July 17th.
